Formula v2.0 blends UEFA association strength with the domestic scoring environment, then adjusts every contribution by its league and season. Players need two completed qualifying seasons.

THE DETAIL / 01

HOW THE INDEX WORKS.

Σ ((G + A) × normalized (scoring0.40 × UEFA0.60)) ÷ appearances

We count league matches from 2024/25, 2025/26 and the partial 2026/27 season through the snapshot date. The scope is England’s Premier League, Spain’s La Liga, Italy’s Serie A and Germany’s Bundesliga. Cups and internationals are excluded. Players who have since left those leagues remain eligible.

Two completed seasons

A player must have at least one qualifying league appearance in both 2024/25 and 2025/26 and have been at clubs in the four qualifying leagues for each season from start to finish. Transfers between those clubs count; injuries and being a substitute do not break club tenure. The partial 2026/27 season contributes to output but cannot count as a completed qualifying season.

For imported CSVs, mark full_season_eligible yes or no on every 2024/25 and 2025/26 row. “Yes” means the player's qualifying-club tenure covered the entire season, including any transfer between qualifying clubs. This is a self-attestation; the site cannot independently check an uploaded file.

Formula v2.0: UEFA 60% + scoring environment 40%

For each league, the domestic scoring factor is the four-league mean goals per match divided by that league’s pooled goals per match from 2024/25 onward. The UEFA factor is that association’s five-season coefficient divided by the mean coefficient of the four associations. The two normalized factors are combined geometrically: scoring0.40 × UEFA0.60, then normalized again so the four-league mean equals 1.000.

UEFA association coefficients—not individual club coefficients—are frozen after the preceding European season finishes. This stops a Champions League matchday from moving the domestic ranking. Approximate 2026/27 multipliers are Premier League ×1.0926, Serie A ×1.0288, La Liga ×0.9852 and Bundesliga ×0.8934. Full-precision values are used in calculation.

The 60/40 split gives greater weight to cross-league competitive strength while retaining the domestic scoring environment. UEFA represents clubs that qualify for Europe rather than every domestic club, and applying the same adjustment to assists remains a design assumption.

Players who change leagues

Each season and league is weighted separately before contributions are added and divided by total qualifying appearances. Select season breakdown under any card to see its contributing records. Raw unadjusted G+A per game is shown below the card.

Breaking a tie

Adjusted scores are compared before display rounding. For equal scores, the player with more goals ranks higher, then the player with more total contributions, then names alphabetically.

What the card rating means

The 84–92 rating is a presentation score assigned by position in this countdown, not an Opta, FotMob, EA Sports or player-ability rating. Rank 1 is 92; ranks 22–25 are 84.

Small samples and snapshot limits

There is no additional minimum appearance requirement. A substitute cameo counts as one game, and injuries can reduce the sample even after two complete seasons at qualifying clubs. This is per appearance, not per 90 minutes. Player statistics are dated 19 October 2026 and do not yet update automatically.

Formula v2.0 was approved on 28 October 2026 and is currently applied to the saved 25-player snapshot. The complete eligible candidate field must be rerun using v2.0 before the membership of the top 25 is considered final. The source may revise records and providers use different assist definitions and update schedules; see the project log.

Goal Index Formula v2.0

The league multiplier now combines the normalized five-season UEFA association coefficient at 60% with the normalized domestic scoring-environment factor at 40%, using a geometric blend. The result is normalized so the mean multiplier across the four leagues is 1.000. Each player-season contribution uses the multiplier for its own league and season.

UEFA values are frozen after the preceding European season finishes. The stored coefficients are 2024/25: England 104.303, Spain 89.489, Italy 90.284, Germany 86.624; 2025/26: England 115.196, Spain 94.453, Italy 97.231, Germany 86.331; 2026/27: England 119.519, Spain 97.046, Italy 99.946, Germany 92.902.

Still required: this release recalculates the saved finalists, but the repository does not contain the full 1,458-player candidate dataset. A complete rescreen under Formula v2.0 is required before confirming who belongs in the top 25.

Your spreadsheet

The combined-season summary pools match and goal counts across 2024/25, 2025/26 and the partial 2026/27 season. It takes the mean of the four leagues’ pooled goals per match, divided by each league’s pooled goals per match, then multiplies by 100. The resulting indices are Serie A 111.65, La Liga 104.73, Premier League 99.25 and Bundesliga 87.57.

Its latest-season match counts are estimates and may not match the date or definitions of the player snapshot. A lower-scoring league is treated as more difficult for both goals and assists; the workbook does not establish overall league strength.

19 OCT 2026 / DECIDED

Two full seasons, not just two appearances

The updated rule requires qualifying league appearances in both completed seasons, 2024/25 and 2025/26, plus qualifying-club membership for each full season. A direct transfer between clubs in those four leagues does not break eligibility. Players may leave after the completed seasons; Lewandowski and Salah remain eligible. Current-season 2026/27 output counts, but that unfinished season cannot qualify a player.

Of 3,312 player IDs, 1,458 had league appearances in both completed seasons. We ranked that pool and reviewed the 25 leading players' club histories and known transfers; appearances alone cannot prove full-season tenure. For example, Marmoush moved from Frankfurt to Manchester City in January 2025, and Lukaku moved from Chelsea to Napoli in August 2024, remaining within qualifying leagues. See each player's season breakdown for a history link.

The review relies on available public career histories and transfer announcements, not a complete licensed day-by-day registration audit. Recheck disputed cases and injuries before treating the ranking as final.

One consistent research snapshot

We used Understat league player data for all four leagues and all three seasons, grouping by provider player ID. Across the 12 league-season datasets, 3,312 distinct players were considered. We combined all eligible league appearances for each player, including those who subsequently moved outside the four leagues. The club on a card is the last qualifying club in the dataset, not necessarily the player’s present club.

This private research prototype is not a licensed production feed. Verify data and image reuse rights before public or commercial publication. The snapshot is not live and will not refresh itself. A licensed, complete Opta export could replace it using the CSV import.

19 OCT 2026 / UNSURE

Provider disagreements

Player definitions and update times differ between services. Understat’s snapshot, for example, lists different 2026/27 assist figures for Harry Kane from the Bundesliga's player page. Differences can change the order. Treat all figures and rankings as provisional until reconciled against an agreed licensed source.

The two-season test reduces newcomer effects but does not guarantee a large sample: injuries or time on the bench can limit appearances. Counts are shown on every card.

19 OCT 2026 / PHOTOS

Photo sources and gaps

Every card has a linked club-published image. Full-length photos are used where found; some are portraits or match photos. Lukaku uses a Napoli image from his previous club because a verifiable current Fenerbahçe image was not found. Official Bundesliga portraits serve as fallbacks if Bayern’s image host is unavailable. Linked photos can change or become unavailable.
